Chapel Haven West is proud to share the highlights from two second-year students and their achievements in Chapel Haven West’s Work Study Program.

Congrats to Alex W. for a promotion at Compass Affordable Housing project!

Alex Welch saw his effort pay off this week when he was offered a promotion through his internship at Compass Affordable Housing (CAH)!  CAH is a Tucson-based non-profit which provides low-cost, affordable housing and support services to families in our community. Alex started as an intern at CAH in July performing office duties such as data entry, filing, and providing services to patrons in their guest services office. His supervisor, Tenant Services Specialist Hannah Shilling, has been mentoring Alex in key areas, and decided it was time to find more opportunities for Alex to grow. He will now be assisting Hannah and the CAH team with event coordination and facilitation, helping them put on events such as their weekly Healthy Home Market, which addresses food literacy and offers fresh, healthy foods to their patrons.

Second-year student Josh G. has made great progress in his two work-study placements.

Another second year student recognized for his outstanding work this week was Josh Gordon. Josh has been working as a Kitchen Assistant at the Southern Arizona VA Health Care Systems (SAVAHCS), and as an apprentice at the Arizona Theater Company (ATC) Scene and Prop Shop. Josh has been setting and achieving weekly objectives at each location related to growing his social communication and vocational skills, and his hard work has been noticed and appreciated by his supervisors and co-workers. Further, Josh has been learning valuable hard skills while helping the crew at ATC build and stage the props for their upcoming performance, The River Bridge.
